Kustom
Komputa simply can’t afford to be untrustworthy: We’re a growing company in
a tough and highly competitive industry and we’re building up our
reputation. For the foreseeable future we’ll be building high-quality
computers for people. Our previous customers are impressed with our
products, and with our year plus repair or replace warranty you can’t go
wrong. We take payments through PayPal only, so you’ll always have
excellent online records of any payment that you make to us, in the
confidence that you’ll have PayPal’s financial guarantees backing you in
addition to our own.
The
quotation and purchase process may appear rather long and complex, but we
always make sure that what we’re building for you is exactly the product
that you want. Should anything be defective in the finished item then
you’ve always got our warranty to fall back upon, which is underwritten by
warranties from component suppliers and manufacturers.
Normally
we deliver by courier within 28 days of order; usually sooner.
It
makes it generally easier all round to have it delivered to your home.
Sorry;
no there isn’t. PayPal offer a service which is second to none and most
convenient to both us and to our customers. As a small company we’re unable
to run a licensed financing operation or department dealing with various
forms of customer payments. – After all; we’re trying to keep our prices as
low as possible, therefore we must also keep our overheads as low as
possible.
The
answers to that question are many fold; and I’ll do my best to cover most
of the main points herein. :
Firstly
Kustom Komputa sells computers, not computers and compulsory extended
warranties; half of which aren’t worth the paper they’re written on, at the
same time doubling the price of your product. Secondly Kustom Komputa
supply built-to-order Kustomised machines rather than off-the-shelf clones:
With a Kustom computer you can be sure you’ve got what you want and need,
rather than something less than you need which was power-sold to you as
leading technology but turned out to be yesterday’s remaining stock at
today’s prices; or something more than you’ll ever need which you were
talked into buying by skilled silver-tongued salespeople.
“…But
what about the price?” You ask. “Surely PC World can sell cheaper than Kustom Komputa
because they sell so much?”
‘Strangely
not. : Kustom Komputa’s prices are comparable to PC World’s, and usually
lower. – It just goes to show how much profit PC World are making off their
customers while their concern is more for making money than for the needs
of the individual customer in terms of their purchase. : That’s why they
can run a network of huge fully-staffed stores, (Even though the staff seem
oblivious to customers most of the time; and few of them actually know
anything about computers anyway.) and run TV advertising campaigns costing
hundreds of thousands. : Conversely that’s why Kustom Komputa only has an online sales outlet and low
overheads.
(I’ve
purchased from PC World before: The computer was a leading model with
advanced capability for the time, (512MB DDR RAM and Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz
CPU; January 2002.) and was on special offer for just over £600. After an
entire afternoon’s pressure and heated debate I emerged with a computer, a
different printer than the one they were offering in the bundled deal,
boxes of crap freebie software, a 5-year extended warranty, and £1100 less
in my purse. At the end of the day I paid £400 for a new CDRW drive, as a
CD exploded in the drive just over a year later and I called out the
engineer under the terms of the extended warranty to replace the jammed
drive. – That was the only time I ever called on the expensive warranty,
and also the start of events including training, experience, and ambition,
which led up to the formation of Kustom Komputa.)
We
build what you specify, or as near as we can get. If you tell us what it is
that you want by filling out our Quotation Request Form, we’ll email you
back with our suggestion. If you’re not happy with our suggestion then we
negotiate further via email until we’re happy that you’re happy with the
proposed build. We never start building until you give us the go-ahead, and
you don’t pay anything until then either. If you aren’t satisfied with our
negotiations and we’re unable to reach a joint compromise then we go our
separate ways and nothing is lost.
By
default we try to stick to AMD wherever possible. Despite Intel’s recent
market dominance and pioneering technologies we prefer to stick to the
tried and tested route wherever possible. We see AMD as future market
leaders. : That is not to say that we won’t build a machine with Intel
inside if you specify it; but our preference for AMD components and
architecture is one of our foremost policies.
In
time yes; we’re going to eventually expand the default range of products to
incorporate systems designed specifically to use these latest offerings
from AMD; especially the triple-core CPU, which we feel could show great
promise. At the time of writing this AMD’s latest processors have only been
launched less than a week; so Kustom Komputa have some catching up to do
and we’ve been thus far unable to find a suitable motherboard for the
purpose, apart from an AMD board with AMD chipset which we’re currently
investigating further. The ATI graphics drivers are in need of a lot more
work before they can be considered for use with Kustom Komputa products.
We
want to make sure that all the creases are ironed out before we present you
with the garment, and also we’d like the prices to begin dropping too
before we start offering you our usual bargain deals.
That
doesn’t mean that if you want us to build you a computer incorporating
AMD’s latest we’ll show any reluctance. Far from it; if you want it and we
can build it then we’ll do just that; but it may be wise to wait a while
before jumping on the cutting-edge bandwagon.
- What is Kustom Komputa
going to do when XP is no longer available next year?
Well
the obvious choices are to either supply Vista with our Kustom computers* –
so it appears that we’ll be selling an optional OEM copy of Vista – One per
PC – as an extra with a new Kustom computer, or otherwise supplying without
any operating system; just a free CD with Bart PE on it perhaps in addition
to the usual driver etc software supplied with the hardware.
Some
of our (older) models don’t support Vista, which is the reason for
inclusion of the earlier * in the paragraph above. :
